The use of various types of project-based activities is a pressing issue in modern education. While methodological recommendations for organizing project-based activities for older preschool children exist, their content remains insufficiently developed within museum practice. This study involved an experiment confirming the effectiveness of the integrated project ‘Journey into the World of Folk Traditions’ in fostering ethnic tolerance in older preschool children. This project includes viewing the exhibition ‘Artists Who Naively Viewed the World’ at the Museum of Tradition, a division of the Museum of Organic Culture (Kolomna).
The work of artists ‘who naively viewed the world’ is considered a part of the broader concept of ‘naive art’: a contemporary cultural phenomenon that emerged at the intersection of folk art, urban primitivism, and professional art. The key characteristic of this concept is a unique, holistic vision of the world, understanding it as a ‘living’ organic cosmos. Naive art preserves within contemporary culture the so-called mythopoetic worldview, which is also inherent in the consciousness of a young child. This mythopoetic model describes the infinite harmony of the world, encompassing existence in all its hierarchical structure, qualitative diversity, and the unity of past, present, and future. The artistic language of naive artists represents a figurative system characteristic of both traditional art (primitive and conventional imagery, flatness, color contrasts, and simplicity and conciseness of composition) and contemporary art (the presence or absence of perspective, a desire for symbolism, and a realistic style). The integrity, universality, and moral orderliness of the world in the work of naive artists displayed in the exhibition at the Museum of Tradition can serve as an important foundation for fostering preschool children’s interest in and respect for the traditions of the peoples of Russia and the world.
